                                   NEWSLETTER – 2/11/09

Hi Everyone,

Things are beginning to get a little exciting as things are coming together. We have had some concrete discussions with a nice hotel on the beach in Miami for our yearly Spiritual Retreat Weekend. Nothing is confirmed yet – but we are working on this and will let you know as we know more details.

Coupled with the retreat and considering how inexpensive cruises have become, we are also in negotiations with one of our travel agents trying to coordinate a 5 day cruise in conjunction with the retreat. Again, nothing concrete yet but as we know we will pass on the information to all of you.

So on and upwards to more concrete things:

1) We are pleased to announce our annual Sober Purim Masquerade and Dinner Event!!

Our Sober Purim dinner will take place, IY"H, on Tuesday March 10, 2009, at 5:00 PM at our home at 147-22 68th Ave., Flushing, NY.  The event will include one of our famous, delicious, home cooked, full course, Glatt Kosher meals, followed by a recovery meeting get together. This is great way to get through the Holiday with other recovering people in a safe, warm environment.

The cost if the event is only $20 for members and $25 for non-members. RSVP's are required as this is a limited seating event. Please call us at 718-261-4049 to make your reservations. PLEASE PASS THE WORD!!! All those who have attended in the past have all had a wonderful time.

Come in costume, come as you are or just simply come. One small caveat – my daughter is expecting the first week in March and if by some chance she gives birth on or around Purim, or if the baby is a boy and the Bris is on Purim we will obviously need to be with her and will refund the full amount of the event.

2) Our annual February Membership Drive is now in full swing and our goal is to sign up 100 new members for 2009. Since we first announced this, we now have had over 40 people sign up for membership and they have received their two FREE* CD's. Membership benefits include discounts to most of our 2009 events and our CD Library, receiving our newsletters and advanced news of upcoming events.

To remind you, those joining in February will receive FREE*, your choice of any two speakers' CD's from our past Spiritual Days.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!!!!!

We now have access to an entire set of Rabbi Abe's recordings where he speaks on various recovery issues. Attached is a complete list of our entire CD  library. Become a member and choose any two CD's absolutely FREE* or simply order any of the CD's to add to your collection.

The benefit to our organization is that the funds help us cover day-to-day costs associated with membership events and it also helps bring those in need to our events. Yearly membership is only $25.00 for Individuals; $36 for Couples; $50 for Families; $75 for Rabbis and Professionals and $100 for Institutions.

Membership form and CD List are attached.

*You need only pay for the cost of shipping, handling, processing and insurance of $4.95 for any two CD's for domestic delivery and $1 for each additional CD. This offer is valid only for anyone joining in the month of February, 2009. Some limitations apply. Membership is renewable on an annual basis. Foreign shipping additional. Membership form attached. Please allow 14 days for delivery.

Simply fill out the Membership and CD Order form and select any two CDs for FREE from the list. Email your order to arnieg@rodfeishalom.org or fax it to 718-261-5469 or mail it to us at Rodfei Shalom Fellowship, 147-22 68th Ave., Flushing, NY 11367. Please allow 7-10 business days for delivery.

 2) Florida RSFI news:

a) There is a monthly RSFI meeting in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Please call Rabbi Nahum at 954-45-1181 for more information.

b) We are currently in negotiations with a beach front hotel in Miami to put on our annual Florida retreat. We will hopefully be able to combine this with a 5 day recovery cruise event. Pricing is more attractive than ever, so for the price of a weekend retreat you will have a 5 day, all expenses paid vacation floating out at sea.                           More information to follow very shortly!!!

3) Toronto Retreat News:

JACS Toronto is holding its first annual retreat on the weekend of February 27, 2009, at the Sheraton Parkway in Markham Ontario. This inspiring weekend welcomes members of all fellowships.

4) Spiritual Thought of the Week:

"My recovering addict friend says that she loves the image of a lighthouse. During one of our frequent telephone meetings, she shared her wish to envision herself as a lighthouse. Her home is full of photos and paintings of lighthouses. I didn't relate at first. But the very next day, my nine-year old son came home from art class with his lighthouse drawing. Coincidence? It made me think.

A lighthouse is steady and immovable. It is a tower that projects light, enabling ships to navigate the dark seas. The lighthouse is unaffected by powerful winds or strong waves - impervious to rain, snow or hail. Standing alone, proud and firm, the lighthouse calls out: Fear not the dark! My steady light illuminates the way.

We in recovery have certainly sailed some dark, stormy nights, groping blindly for direction and clarity. Sometimes we drifted, frightened or unconscious, not even aware of how we eventually washed up ashore. Today, we know that wherever we find ourselves, we can discover a source of guiding light. For some, it might be a meeting; for others, a program phone call, a reading or a prayer. Each one of us, however, burns with an inner light that we access when we turn to G-d. He is the One Who created that light within us when He breathed life into us. Our job is to plug in, and to ask Him to help us generate the infinite light within us. Our own light is capable of radiating beams of hope, penetrating the darkness around us, helping fellow souls find their way.

My friend wants to see herself as a lighthouse because she wants to be strong and bright in the face of life's inevitable storms. For me, however, the lighthouse arouses feelings of loneliness and isolation. Seas are scary and vast. The lighthouse radiates an illuminating beam, yet it stands completely alone."  Sent in by Neil T.

5) By Popular Demand: Return of our Humor Section:

SENILITY PRAYER
God, grant me the Senility
To forget the people
I never liked,
The good fortune
To run into the ones I do,
And the eyesight
To tell the difference.
